What is HUGS Camp?

HUGS is an unique camp for unique people which brings together young people of diverse abilities. As the campers live, work, play and learn within the camp family, they overcome barriers of real and imagined differences and build bridges of understanding. They look beyond their area of “difference” and begin to embrace the abilities, talents and personality of each person present. The great differences among campers and staff help all of us learn to appreciate and celebrate our diversity as we recognize our common ground.

The campers with special needs are joined by one to three “helper” campers who assist and befriend the “special” campers whose needs may range from needing assistance in bathing, eating, and/or dressing to help getting around or just having a friend to encourage participation.

Helper Campers take part in a day of training with counselors and nurses to learn how to care for the campers.

Through out the week, the campers live, play, and sing together.

The Camp family stays in the cabins and activities are in gym/pool area, the lodge, youth facility, and games on the recreation field.

Come join in a camp where diversities are celebrated and understood!
